As part of a large scale refurbishment and update to the iconic and listed Winter Gardens Building in Eastbourne, a new high capacity events kitchen was required.
Working as sub-contractors to Space Group, BWF were appointed to carry out the kitchen ventilation part of the project.

The Design
Being located directly next to an events space, the DW/172 complaint design priorities were to ensure:
- The external plant was located in a very discrete location out of sight of both building users and passersby but without the use of a plant room
- The noise from the system was carefully controlled so as not to generate a potential internal or external nuisance.
- Any odours from the system were also carefully controlled so as not to generate a potential internal or external nuisance.
- The incoming air was tempered to +14 degrees C higher than the outside ambient level in winter
To achieve the design requirements, the system was powered with high volume Systemair fans coupled to bespoke attenuators to comply with noise targets. Odour control was achieved using a three cell Purified Air ESP unit together with Plasmaclean ozone injection. Heating was achieved using a duct mounted low pressure hot water coil integrated to a hot water supply by others.
